What is windows 98 for Android

In computing, Windows 98 (codenamed Memphis) is a graphical operating system released by Microsoft in June 1998. It is the successor to Windows 95 and the predecessor to Windows ME. Windows 98 was succeeded by Windows 2000 which was released to manufacturing on December 15, 1999.

Windows 98 includes several enhancements over its predecessor, such as new multimedia features, improved input device support and updated device drivers. Despite these improvements, Windows 98 is still considered an extension to Windows 95 rather than a separate operating system.

Windows 98 was released in four editions: First Edition (FE), Second Edition (SE), Upgrade Edition and OEM Service Release 2 (SR2). The FE version was released on June 25, 1998 and the SE version was released on May 5, 1999. The Upgrade edition could be installed on systems with a previous version of Windows 95 or Windows 3.1 with Multimedia Extensions installed. Service Release 2, which included USB support and other minor updates, was made available to OEMs on March 5, 2000.

Windows 98 was the last major release of Microsoft Windows to be based on the MS-DOS operating system. As such, it includes some features unique to this platform, such as real-mode drivers and a 32-bit Disk Access component which was not present in later versions of Windows.

Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 98 on June 30, 2002 and extended support ended on July 11, 2006. Even though Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft, it can still be used as an operating system today. However, users should be aware that there are security risks associated with using an unsupported operating system.
